Beauty Queen Get the Hiher rate in MEGA MANILA

The stars of Beauty Queen prove to be more appealing, and the plot more engaging, than those of its counterpart in the rival station as demonstrated by its consistent high ratings in Mega Manila, according to AGB Nielsen.

Since debuting with a promising 9.5 percent people ratings, GMA-7’s homegrown drama continues to reign in its timeslot, even scoring as high as 11.3 percent (which is relatively high for a late night program) on October 27 (Wednesday) as compared to its rival’s 7.9 percent.

The premise of the show, which is to provide the audience with an all-exclusive backstage pass into the all too intriguing world of beauty pageants, became an instant hit among primetime viewers.

Young women can empathize with the browbeaten character of Maita played by Iza, a dutiful daughter who dedicates her dream of becoming a beauty queen to her bitter and cold-hearted mother effectively portrayed by veteran thespian Elizabeth Oropesa.

Others find the character of Maggie Wilson as Rebecca, a sophisticated beauty queen aspirant, more arresting, while some see themselves in Katrina Halili who plays Dorcas, a timid and self-effacing girl who struggles to get out of her shell. Generally speaking, both male and female audiences credit the show’s original and bold storyline, which features each of their stars at their very brightest.

This week, tension ignites between best friends Maita (Iza Calzado) and Rebecca (Maggie Wilson) after the latter finds out that Maita is the woman Marc (TJ Trinidad) is fantasizing about. Meanwhile, Maita joins a bikini open hoping to bring home the grand prize, which she will use to bail her mother out of prison, unaware that Rebecca is one of the judges.

Beauty Queen airs weeknights on GMA Pinoy TV.
